About the Friends

An independent charity formed to assist with the cost of maintaining and preserving the Parish Church of Hannington.  The Friends of All Saints Hannington was created in January 2006 exclusively to help preserve the structure and fabric of our ancient Parish Church.  The Friends does not contribute to the day-to-day running of the church or the Diocesan Quotas.  The Friends will give everyone in the local community the chance to help safeguard our village landmark, not just for today but for future generations.  The Trustees have the responsibility for organising financial support of the Charity through membership and local activities.  They also have sole discretion on the distribution of the funds to capital projects suggested by the PCC.

Why do we need The Friends of All Saints?

The cost of maintaining the fabric of an ancient church such as All saints Hannington is considerable and ongoing.  Future projects will include work on our bells, the stonework, churchyard maintenance, in the not too distant future; work on the wooden-clad spire.

Our Heritage

All Saints dates back to Saxon times, with additions made in the 14th and 15th Centuries.  Some of the windows date from this time.  We are also very proud of two modern windows designed and engraved by Laurence Whistler (see picture above).  Today's visitor can only marvel at the superb craftsmanship which has endured over the centuries.  The beautiful church, which is the centrepiece of Hannington and is regularly open to visitors, is, above all, a working church.   Many villagers and those with connections to the Parish have experienced some of their happiest moments at the Church at christenings and weddings, or found comfort there in times of trouble.
