"The second event for Hannington golfers took place on the afternoon of Saturday 17 October, when thirteen golfers played at Sandford Spring Golf Club, the final group finishing in the last of the daylight. For the technically minded, we played a full handicap Stableford competition. Somewhat disappointingly for the Sandford Springs members, none of them finished in the top 3 so local knowledge provided insufficient assistance. The winner with a very solid 38 points was Ross Macmurchy, in second place was Alastair Littleton and third Simon Taylor.
The event concluded with a splendid supper provided by Kate at the Vine"

On the 8th August the first meeting of the HUGS (Hannington Unofficial Golf Society) was held on a beautiful summer’s afternoon at Basingstoke Golf Club.
After a slight hiccup due to a double booking with a club match the eight Hannington Golfers (including two Ladies) teed off on the 11th hole. The scoring was very close with 5 stableford points between the first four places and an enjoyable round had by all.
Following a quick drink at the Golf Club we were joined by other halves at The Vine where a filling meal was served followed by a very generous amount of cheese and biscuits. Unfortunately our Winner Robert Finlayson could not attend but the second and third prizes were awarded to Pat Sarsfield-Hall and Barry Cotton.
Last week we reconvened to present Robert with his prize and to inform him that as the winner he had the privilege of arranging the next event.
This will be played at Sandford Springs on Saturday 17th October followed by dinner at The Vine where non-golfers are welcome to join the players.
If anyone (within the parish of Hannington) would like to play please contact Robert Finlayson robert.finlayson@lambbrooks.com
It is hoped that we will grow into a society that plays a variety of local venues hopefully returning to the pub for the après-golf!
