Hannington Cricket
If you or your children are interested in playing, please could you send me a very quick email [email protected].
As part of the plans to rejuvenate Michael’s field for the village, we are hoping to hold a small number of cricket matches each year. Many of those who kindly responded to the recent questionnaire mentioned cricket as being one of the stronger legacies for the field. Cricket has the potential to keep the use of the field local. It is inclusive - for all ages both to play and watch, and should help to preserve the field in its natural state for all to continue to enjoy.
HANNINGTON FAMILY CRICKET MATCH
3rd August 2019
MATCH REPORT
This was another terrific game, once again going down to the last over. The ‘Bedford Bashers’ took on ‘Davo’s Dashers’ led by Max Davidson. The pitch was in tremendous condition thanks to the hard work of Steve Simpkin and Nick Duffield and many thanks to them both.
The Dashers won the toss and seizing the opportunity to exert some pressure, decided to bat. B Spark (1) fell early before F Durden-Smith (13) and C Bedford (19 including 2 sixes off his brother) put some early runs on the board. Z Brookes played an innings of substance retiring on 24 before M Durden-Smith, unsure of the practice bat, cut one on to his own wicket for 9. J Smiley played well for his 15 but then A Lowrie and F Colquhoun then went cheaply The Dashers then rallied with good knocks from both J Colquhoun (12) and the captain, M Davidson (21). W Smiley fell late on without troubling the scorer, a one handed catch behind the stumps by C Brookes. Everyone took up the offer to bowl which was great to see – W Lowrie and K Davidson the picks of the bunch.
Set a competitive 153 to win off 25 overs the Bashers started strongly with both openers, K Davidson (21) and H Smiley (20) retiring. A Durden-Smith was then caught by his father for 6 before C Reeves produced a good debut 11 – a good catch in the deep by a slightly stunned A Lowrie. H Bedford chipped in with a quick-fire 14 and S Colquhoun was then caught behind for 2. W Lowrie (16) and C Brookes (9) kept the runs ticking over until 15 were needed from the last 17. H Colquhoun got a cracker from X Brookes to fall early but H Bedford (7) and P Tame (1) also on his debut, managed to steer the Bashers home to a precious victory with two balls to go and with the famous Michaels Field bobble lending a helping hand! Again, all players had a bowl with strong performances in particular from X Brookes and J Smiley. The Man of the Match award went to W Lowrie for a great all round performance.
A big thank you too to our superb umpires N Duffield and J Duffield who remained calm and consistent in all their decision making despite a lot of noise in particular from some younger Dashers!
